Mission
To provide services that strengthen and expand philanthropy to improve the St. Louis region.
Vision
A thriving St. Louis region in which a strong philanthropic community and effective nonprofits collaboratively advance the quality of life.
History
Founded in 1970 as the Metropolitan Association for Philanthropy (MAP), the Gateway Center for Giving (the Center) is an association of grantmakers serving the St. Louis region.
Our members include corporations, donor-advised funds, foundations, individuals, trusts and professional advisors actively involved in philanthropy, which we define as “the giving of time, wisdom and wealth by groups and individuals for the common good.”
Regional Association of Grantmakers
The Center is part of a network of organizations called regional associations of grantmakers. 38 regional associations exist across the country, connecting all types of grantmakers in a specific geographic location to improve the quality of life of individuals and communities in that area. A regional association’s membership can include a variety of grantmaking institutions and programs, including:
- Community foundations
- Corporate grantmakers
- Family foundations
- Independent and private foundations
- Public foundations
