Challenging St. Louis nonprofits to diversify both internally and through community engagement
ST. LOUIS, MO – Gitana Productions, Inc. and the Regional Arts Commission (RAC) are presenting “Cross-Cultural Engagement: Building a Diverse and Dynamic Community,” a conference for arts and nonprofit organizations, at Webster University on October 11 and 12. Cost for the two-day conference is just $45 and scholarships are available. Registration is available online at www.stlcross-culturalengagement.org.
The conference will help non-profit arts, social services, education and community organizations develop strategies and tools to effectively engage new and underserved communities, develop lasting cross-cultural relationships and improve their own internal diversity.
“RAC considers diversity and cross-cultural engagement very important to the cultural vitality of our region,” said Jill McGuire, executive director of RAC, which provides financial, technical and other support for St. Louis arts organizations.
Howard J. Ross, one of the nation’s leading diversity training consultants, will deliver the keynote address. Ross is an expert on diversity, leadership, and organizational change, the author of ReInventing Diversity: Transforming Organizational Community to

The Gateway Center for Giving celebrates the work of our St. Louis area grantmakers through our Excellence in Grantmaking Awards by honoring donors who fund programs, efforts, or initiatives that have made a significant impact in the region. Over the the next few weeks we will share with the community both the winning nominations as well as some of the other great nominations that will be considered for an award in 2012. Awards will be handed out at our 2011 Annual Meeting PhilanthroPLAY which will take place at The Magic House on January 30, 2012. Click here to register.
The Giving is ON GOING award recognizes a grantmaker who created a lasting change. There is no better way to leave a legacy than by changing the future. This category includes either giving that spans multiple years in order to demonstrate systems change OR a grant that allowed a nonprofit to institutionalize a program that is now self supporting and providing a revenue stream for the organization.
The winner of the 2011 Giving is ON GOING award goes to The Saigh Foundation from three different nonprofit organizations. The Center received over 20 nominations from nonprofits for our annual Grantamakers in Excellence Awards! We were thrilled with the response from the nonprofit community and excited that such a wide range of grantmakers were nominated this year. While we plan to recognize all of the nominated grantmakers at the Annual Meeting, three grantmakers will receive special recognition at the meeting.
