It’s been almost two weeks since the devastating tornado hit Joplin and the community is just starting to rebuild. An appropriately named website was recently launched – www.rebuildjoplin.org– to help the rebuilding efforts.
This is a site designed for 2 primary purposes: 1) connect needs with resources and help to organize, collect, and coordinate all of the various services that are trying to help Joplin right now, and 2) help keep as much of the relief money in Joplin as possible, to be used by the local community for the rebuilding of the community. The site has been endorsed by the City of Joplin as the official site for the rebuilding effort and how to get help or help Joplin, as well as by Fema, United Way 211, and the SWMO state representatives. FEMA recently said this is the best model they’ve seen and will recommend it to other cities to help with effective disaster relief.
Please take the time to visit this new site to learn how you can help. To find out how grantmakers in St. Louis have been providing support please visit our recent blog post- Responding to the Joplin Tornado.
