Nonprofit Missouri is participating in a large-scale nonprofit compensation survey that is being conducted in partnership with the National Council of Nonprofits and Columbia Books. The 2012 Nonprofit Salary Survey is now opened, it closes April 30 and the results will be available in June.
Your participation is vital in ensuring this Salary Survey data is as relevant and useful to Missouri nonprofits as possible.
What is the 2012 Nonprofit Salary Survey?
Prepared in collaboration with the National Council of Nonprofits, and produced by experts at Columbia Books, who have over 30 years of experience conducting compensation reports, this annual salary survey is designed specifically for nonprofits. It is the fastest and easiest-to-use salary survey available.
Nonprofit Missouri is offering this opportunity to all Missouri nonprofits to help you and your organization set fair and competitive compensation – the key to hiring and maintaining valuable employees.
A national report will be generated from data collected, but, more importantly, if 100 or more Missouri nonprofits participate, a Missouri-specific compensation report will be generated. Knowing our NPMO members, we feel confident that we will far surpass this requirement but it means we need your help by both completing and promoting the survey.
The final report will include:
- Hard data to analyze your nonprofit’s salary structure
- Specific market salary information for multiple positions
- Easy-to-read charts including median salaries, average salaries and more
- Changes in nonprofit pay levels from one year to the next
- Salary differences by budget and staff size
- Confidential coding so that all survey participants can compare their own pay levels to comparable nonprofit organizations
The report will be available in June 2012.
Participation and Pricing
All nonprofit organizations that want to participate in the survey can, whether they are a member of Nonprofit Missouri (NPMO) or not. If you participate, the cost of the survey is reduced, or free if you are a NPMO member:
- NPMO member who participates: free
- NPMO member who does not participate: $75 (50% discount)
- Nonmember who participates: $75 (50% discount)
- Nonmember who does not participate: $150 (list price)

The more participants we have, the better the data. High participation produces robust results. And, we will have access to Missouri-specific data if 100 or more nonprofit organizations participate in the survey. If fewer than 100 organizations from Missouri participate, a Missouri-specific report will not be produced but you will receive a version of the national report.
Who fills out the survey?
The HR or finance executive at your organization; or if you don’t have a dedicated HR or finance staff person, your executive director is the most appropriate person to complete the survey.
Is it difficult?
No. The user interface is designed for easy input of compensation information. A support team will be available to answer questions.
Is it secure?
Absolutely. The user interface is encrypted and a confidential ID is provided to participants to review your results in the final report.
